What is the best way to anchor a houseboat? What is the best way to anchor the Müritz? Not sure if I have the right answer, but it has become a really important part of every day life. I routinely check the lines which tie the boat to the land, and I have to tighten the ropes periodically, usually before and after any big storm.
I have learned some the sailing knots, and I keep practicing …the half hitch, the bowline…
When my next door neighbor had his boat out on the docks this summer, the return of the huge vessel did not go smoothly… as a result of the rough handling, all the anchors of my boat broke down and it turned out that most of the moorings on land had rotted away. Yikes!!!
It was time to make a new plan. Olli, my neighbor once again came to the rescue. After many weeks of scheming and planning, and even longer preparation he built a bollard strong enough to hold two vessels and last for a decade or more.
Step 1: Buy an earth drill
Step 2: Build an extension for the drill
Step 3: Drill a hole in the ground 2,5 m deep (this was harder than you would think due to the many tree roots)
Step 4: Sink a metal pole in the hole, cover the pole with a metal pipe
Step 5: Fill with cement
Step 6: drill and fasten metal transverse pole
Step 6: Cover with a plastic surrounding
Step 7: let dry and fasten the boat

I am now set for winter and the storms to come. Thank you Olli.
Wonderful Web-site, Carry on the excellent work. Thanks a ton.
